Summer Camp 2017 - Cervinia/Zermatt

For our first camp of the 2017-2018 season we were based in Cervinia in Italy and were skiing on the Zermatt glacier in Switzerland. A 45 minute gondola ride each day took us up the mountain and over the boarder to the glacier.

Across Europe this summer the weather has been extremely unpredictable. Unfortunately were weren't able to ski as much as we would have liked - only 10 days out of 3 weeks. Whether it was because of high winds, warm temperatures opening up crevasses, lightning striking the lift pylon or dense fog, there always seemed to be a reason to shut the glacier.

When we were able to ski, we focused on technical free-skiing and improving fundamentals such as stance and level shoulders. It was great to be back training as part of a team after my knee surgery last year.

Despite not being able to ski as much as we would have liked, we still learnt a huge amount. We filled our time when were weren't able to ski by doing fitness and other sports including canyoning, go-karting, hiking, high-ropes and swimming. I pushed myself outside of my comfort zone; sprinting, agility, playing team games and canyoning are things haven't done in over 3 years because of my surgeries. One of the main positives I took away from this camp was learning to trust my knee and realising how much more my knee was capable of doing than I thought . I also managed to shake off the patella tendonitis that had been niggling since February.

Our next camp in August will be in Chile - my first time skiing in South America! The FIS girls team and I made a video of our camp in Cervinia, check it out below:
